The commercial kitchen we work from is not approved as a nut, gluten or dairy free kitchen.
We are able to make substitutions based on your allergy so when you sign up, respond to the welcome e-mail with your substitution needs.
We have gluten free flour, use Bragg's gluten free soya sauce, and Tikinyada gluten free brown rice pasta. The best part? Everything comes in pieces (except for sauces) so if you wish to make your own substitution it's super easy!
Most of the meals are vegan, however, we do use honey and fish oils in some of our sauces.
We don't provide any protein or dairy so this makes it ultra flexible for your preferences
We provide your kits in returnable produce bags and jars. Your diligence in returning them to your pick up location each week and at the end of your subscription are greatly appreciated so we can keep these items out of the recycling (or worse!) the landfill. Part of our low cost model is being able to reuse these items so please keep bringing those jars and produce bags back.
There are two monthly menus:
Take it Easy - 45 minutes or less, these tried and true recipes are quicker so you can whip them up in no time! The recipes are rotated slightly but repeated more often with seasonal vegetables popping in and out of the recipes throughout the year. For example our chow mein vegetable recipe could have daikon in it during the month of March but feature broccoli during the month of August.
Regular Menu - This menu is great for someone who loves to take some time to make their own pizza dough, try a new tart recipe or is interested in trying something unique for their in-season cooking journey. Recipes take from 25 minutes to 90 minutes depending on cooking instructionds
We would like to offer options in the future, however, our aim is to provide people with an in-season cooking experience and our chef, Fiona Lewis has been working her tail off to create recipes that coincide with the produce availability.
Since you're the cook you can decide to add hot sauce, your own favourite protein, or any other little twist to suit your taste buds
The regular recipes we provide take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. The longer ones are things like hearty soups, and home made pizzas or roasted squash. It's a great learning experience and if you count the time you save from not having to make a trip to the grocery store, you're way ahead! Some people find making the recipes all at once saves time during the week, others pre prep longer ingredients (roasting squash) while making their first dinner the night before.
If you're pressed for time, try the Take it Easy menu, where recipes take under 45 minutes to prepare.
You can order a double portion for a family. However, we suggest you order the regular size for the first month. Kids aren't always up for the strange vegetables we plate up so be aware this may be too adventurous for their taste buds!
Some find the Take it Easy a more sure thing and, depending on the appetite, some families have found ways to simply stretch their meal kits with extra protein, stock, and/or carbs.
